WELCOME TO OUR HISTORIC HOTEL & ESTATE

A million miles away yet so close.

175 Years in the making we are an iconic designer 5 STAR boutique hotel in the Adelaide Hills famous for our luxury escapes, three hat fine dining restaurant, indulgent day spa experiences, conference retreats and breathtakingly beautiful weddings.

Mount Lofty House was built in 1852 by prominent statesman Arthur Hardy as his summer house. Arthur Hardy is reminiscent of a South Australian Jay Gatsby; indeed his wife Martha described their lifestyle as ‘a kind of feudal splendour’. Their beautiful manor soon became the state’s premier address for lavish and infamous parties for Adelaide’s elite of the day. From such lofty beginnings the manor was passed through a number of South Australian families, including a period as commune in the 1970s. In the disastrous 1983 fires of Ash Wednesday Mount Lofty House was burnt to the ground before rising from the ashes like a phoenix to truly become one of South Australia’s great icons…

Testimonials

Old world charm with impeccable service
When you imagine being spoiled, well Mount Lofty House leads the way. Amazing property with stunning gardens and views of Pinnacle Valley. Dining in Hardy’s Verandah was as good if not better than any dining experience I’ve had. One of the highlights was a tour of the property, recounting the history of the house, and expertly told by Christopher. Thanks to all for a memorable visit.

Brilliant night away
We were greeted as soon as our car pulled up and promptly checked in with a glass of bubbly... Dinner at Hardy’s Verandah was superb and the wines and service were top class. We had complimentary cookies in our room and then port and chocolates when our beds were turned down. Breakfast was great and I would highly recommend Mt Lofty House to anyone wanting a special night out.
