Mount Lofty House has announced a new series of events that will engage food and wine lovers and show case the estate’s extensive food and wine program.
The first event, on Thursday 1 September 2022, will be hosted by Head Chef Jin Choi in the three-chef hat Hardy’s Verandah Restaurant alongside Head Sommelier Abhas Saxena and winemaker Xavier Bizot of Terre à Terre & Tapanappa.
Chef Jin Choi will take guests on a five-course culinary journey of South Australian food paired with wines from Xavier’s cellar by Tapanappa & Terre à Terre . The evening will also include a tour of Hardy’s Verandah Restaurant cellar and finish in bar.

Hailing from the Bollinger family in France, Xavier Bizot, has been involved with his father in law Brian Croser at his Tapanappa winery since the start in 2003.
In 2004 Xavier and his wife Lucy planted their Crayères Vineyard in Joanna, north of Coonawarra, with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Shiraz and Sauvignon blanc on the classic terra rossa over limestone soils, with a very unique close spacing vineyard design.
In 2006, Xavier studied viticulture at Adelaide University Waite campus and a subsequent year of oenology in 2007.
Xavier and Lucy started their Terre à Terre wine label in 2008 making wines from the Crayères Vineyard and their DAOSA label ion 2009, making traditional method sparkling wines from their vineyards in the Piccadilly Valley.
From the 2020 vintage, Xavier and Lucy started making the sparkling wines from the vineyards in Mount Lofty House and these wines will be available for the guests from 2023 onwards.
Abhas Saxena joined Mount Lofty House Estate as Head Sommelier in February 2022. Abhas is a certified sommelier from The Court of Master Sommeliers, European Chapter, and has spent the last decade working with the finest in the industry.
Abhas spent a number of years with India’s largest hotel group, Taj Hotel Group, where he was Head Sommelier and was responsible for developing and executing the new brand standard wine list for all luxury hotels across India. There, he was awarded Best Sommelier for Taj Group at TABE (Taj Award for Business Excellence).
Abhas has created wine lists that won the Award for Excellence from Wine Spectator in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. He was also the winner of the 10th Indian Sommelier Championship and four ancillary rounds and in 2017 he was awarded the best sommelier of the year (Editorial choice awards) at the Hotelier India-F&B Conclave.
